The policy further identifies nationally recognized government and industry training curricula and certifications that State Defense Force personnel should obtain to ensure professionalism, safety, and interoperability. Policy 1004.01
This policy provides recommended standards and best practices for recruiting, evaluating, and accessioning new applicants into State Defense Forces. It outlines effective recruiting methods and outreach campaigns while establishing screening processes designed to identify applicants who are legally, physically, and mentally qualified to serve. The policy recommends background investigations, criminal history reviews, social media screening, medical and mental health evaluations, and physical fitness standards and practices. Its objective is to ensure State Defense Forces recruit capable, reliable personnel who meet military service requirements and can uphold public confidence.
