The state guard administration
State Guard Administration is the policy development and advisory department of The State Guard & Defense Force Council. Its mission is to provide lawmakers, government officials, policymakers, and military departments with authoritative information, policy guidance, and practical frameworks related to the creation, organization, and effective employment of State Defense Forces. Through research and structured recommendations, State Guard Administration supports the establishment of new State Defense Forces where they do not exist and the modernization of existing forces to strengthen state-level security, disaster response, and public safety in accordance with federal and state law.
The State Guard & Defense Force Council traces its origins to 2005 with the launch of HomeGuardArmory.com, one of the earliest platforms dedicated to State Defense Force reporting, which later evolved into StateDefenseForce.com in 2008. In 2022, the organization formally became a nonprofit, expanding its mission to include legislative engagement, organizational development, and policy support for State Defense Forces nationwide, and in 2025 it was recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. State Guard Administration operates within this framework as the Council’s policy arm, developing recommended standards and governance models intended to ensure State Defense Forces remain professional, mission-ready, and trusted assets to their states and communities.
